Fun Fortunes Quiz Night every Wednesday
This quiz is an adaptation of the popular game show Family Fortunes, comprising 10 questions where you must give your top five answers to each. A truly fantastic quiz that can’t be googled! The fun starts at 9:00 pm.

Higher or Lower
A great pub favourite! Straight after the Fun Fortunes quiz, there’s another chance to win some money. If your ticket is called, all that stands between you and the current jackpot is the turn of eight cards. The only question you have to answer is: is it higher or lower?

Folk Night

Magazine Folk Club “Sing Around”

The Folk Night has changed days! Originally held on a Thursday evening, it now takes place on Tuesdays from 8:00 – 10:00 pm. If you have an interest in folk music, country, or bluegrass, come along and join in – or simply listen and enjoy the atmosphere.

The Magazine Bowling Club

The Magazine Bowling Club is an independent club with a rich history spanning over 150 years. The land was originally owned by Ann Dean in 1841, and by 1851, a bowling green had been established behind The Magazine Hotel, then known as The Black Horse, which first opened in 1779. The club was officially formed in 1853 by local shop owners and was recognised by the Wallasey News in 1979 as the oldest bowling club in Britain. Competitions were traditionally held on Sundays to accommodate members’ six-day workweeks, a tradition that continues today.

The bowling green and clubhouse, built by Bass Northwest and opened on 16th September 1989, are located in a peaceful setting behind The Magazine Hotel. Today, members come from all walks of life, creating a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. The club celebrates its long history, including the Bashers Trophy, a competition established in 1953 to mark both the club’s centenary and the Queen’s Coronation. The annual match between the Magazine Bowling Club and the Police remains a cherished tradition.

The club proudly hosts a charity competition in June, where over 60 teams take part in friendly competition for The Magazine Bowling Club Charity Cup. This event has supported numerous local charities, including Wirral Society for the Blind and Partially Sighted, St. John’s Hospice, Claire House, and New Brighton Lifeboat Station. In addition to competitive bowling, there are social bowling sessions in the afternoons, where new players are always welcome. The club competes in the Wallasey C.G.B. Association’s First Division and has a veterans’ team in the local league.

The clubhouse features a full-size snooker table, available to all members at no extra cost. The green is open year-round, and the club hosts numerous social and competitive events throughout the summer bowling season. New members are always welcome! If you’re interested in joining, please download and complete the application form. As of February 2017, the club is delighted to welcome female members.
